Be healthy and stay fit (for men)

Specially for men (see also Specially for women version)
In this post I present you 6 ways to stay healthy, for men. But women can also learn plenty of useful information here. So, let us start:
1. Donate blood
Each year, millions of people need blood transfusions. The good news is that the donation can also improve your health. The donation may reduce the risk of heart disease - the more you give your blood, the lower is the risk. Besides, when you donate blood you pass a mini survey of your body. So, what could be better than to help saving someone's life, thereby improving your own health?
2. Wash your hands
It sounds simple, but perhaps that is why people do not take it seriously. Frequent hand washing - is one of the best ways to protect yourself from infectious diseases. The reason is that many infections are transmitted through contact with different things - door handles, hands of other people, telephones, desktop devices and other objects. Handwashing is important for people of all ages, especially for children.
3. Normal sleep
Nearly half of adults in the world do not get enough sleep. Sleep disorders are associated with serious illnesses such as high blood pressure and heart attack. Also, lack of sleep can cause overweight. The normal sleep is 7-8 hours.
4. Go fishing
Looking for an easy way to reduce the risks of heart attacks? Eat fish. Few products can bring you the same significant benefit, like fish. Eat fish only twice a week and you will definitely receive a great benefit.
5. Do not rely on antibiotics
If you are suffering from a cold, earache, bronchitis or flu, do not think that a doctor will prescribe you antibiotics. In fact, in some cases, antibiotics can only complicate the situation, and will negatively influence your health.
6. Health surveys
And the last... A little prevention is always the best medicine, so do not neglect the annual medical examination of your body. ;)

Interview with a person, who knows how to maximize life

Today I have a talk with Al Weatherhead, the author of The Power Of Adversity and chairman and CEO of Weatherchem, a private manufacturer of plastic closures for food, spice, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products. But, first of all, he is a 85 year-old businessman, who is still young in heart and mind.
So, let us start...
- Hello, Al! Tell us a few words about yourself.
- My name is Al Weatherhead and I’m the chairman and CEO of Weatherhead Industries, a private manufacturer of plastic closures for food, spice, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products. I am also the author of THE POWER OF ADVERSITY: Tough Times Can Make You Stronger, Wiser and Better.
I can sum up the theme of my book in ten words: We’re not meant to be happy. We’re meant to grow. Misfortune... Failure... Illness... It seems adversity is everywhere and we’re doomed to lives of frustration. I believe it needn’t be so, and I’m no stranger to adversity. I’ve endured – and surmounted – wrenching family estrangement, terrible arthritis, serious heart disease, and I’m a recovering alcoholic.
My travails, instead of holding me back, spurred me on, until I came to see adversity as a “blessed enemy.” I now know that adversity is not a curse, but a gift... and that when we embrace adversity, we receive a tempering of body, mind and spirit that can empower us to achieve unimagined success.
Today I am healthy and happily married to the woman of my dreams; a proud father and grandfather; CEO of a multi-million dollar company, and a thoughtful philanthropist. I have no doubt that I’ve achieved everything in my life not despite of adversity, but because of it.
In my book, I reveal how each of us can reach a greater understanding and mastery of life in all its wildness and goodness, by harnessing the power of adversity.
- When you were very young, did you have a goal in your life?
- As a child, dreaming in my father’s factory, I saw the camaraderie, respect, love and energy shared by Weatherhead employees. I watched, too, as my parents poured their lives into the company. All this created the heartbeat of that factory.
Then, with the death of my father, the Weatherhead Company developed a diseased heart. Mismanagement crushed the human endeavor upon which the factory thrived, as you and I thrive on clean air, water, nourishing food, a healthy heart and a happy soul.
I have since come to believe in both life and business that successful management is more like taking a pulse than taking inventory. After decades of leadership experience, I can now walk onto any factory floor and intuit its health from the spark, rhythm and air of its space.
I could share with you hundreds of stories of triumphs and failures throughout my life. But as my leadership matured and my creativity blossomed, I came to see failure not as a defeat but as learning one more way that something is not done. Such learning can be daunting, but it is the only way we can survive and thrive in both the personal and professional aspects of our lives.
- What inspired you to write THE POWER OF ADVERSITY?
- As readers of my book know, I’ve had my share of major adversity. I have been a drunk. I’ve endured failed business ventures… failed marriages… and I’ve suffered the terrors of clinical depression, crippling arthritis and terrifying heart disease.
There was a time in my life when I felt I had sunk as low as I thought one could go. Then things turned around for me. Why? This question tormented and fascinated me. What was I doing now in my life that I wasn’t doing when adversity was threatening to overwhelm me? How had I changed?
My introspection provided me with a sudden illumination. I realized that I had at some point recognized serious adversity for what it is: the natural order of life; that adversity is meant to act like a grain of sand inside an oyster and be an irritant in our lives that can stimulate us to create pearls.
Ultimately, I came to understand the power of adversity and some of the lessons it can teach us, starting with the all important truth that we are not meant, in the grand scheme of life, to be happy and comfortable. Rather, we are meant to forge our characters on the anvil of adversity.
Since then I’ve come to believe most of us experience monumental periods of adversity and it’s these devastating setbacks which propel us in our quest to become fully and creatively human. Sometimes we get stuck, so stuck, in fact, that only great pain will impel us to move. It’s then that the power of adversity is revealed.
But to see it requires a new way of looking at the world, a radical shifting of perspective. My book presents tips, advice and rules all of us can use to master the power of adversity for our own benefit and that of our families, friends, and mankind.
- Who do you think this book will help?
- The audience for THE POWER OF ADVERSITY is enormous. For starters, in my book I specifically discuss my personal experiences with arthritis, heart disease and alcoholism as examples of adversities that I have overcome using my unique self-help techniques. This makes my book of particular interest to the:
• 40 million Americans, or approximately 1 in 7 who have some form
of arthritis;
• 65 million Americans who have been diagnosed with heart disease;
• 28 million Americans, or 43% of the adult population have been exposed
to alcoholism in the family;
• 35 million Americans have experienced addictions to various drugs.
All of these people will find in my book inspiration, concrete lessons, and pragmatic advice on how to master the power of adversity to bring about wellbeing and success in life.
- What are you working on at the moment?
- In addition to mentoring management at my company as we develop new plastic closure products, I’m working on my next book, THE POWER OF ADVERSITY IN BUSINESS, in which I will share the secrets that allowed me to realize professional success in building my company, mentoring people within the business, and recruiting outside managerial talent.
- What advice would you give to our readers?
- The most important advice I can give is to take advantage of all the new opportunities presented in your personal unending stream – and infinite bounty – of adversity. Remember:
• Adversity is all powerful – either it creates misery or destroys it.
• Adversity will always hurt – it is up to us to transform that hurt into limitless freedom and positive transformation
• Adversity is the bridge that can carry us to our future – where we can live fully, bravely and meaningfully in the world.
Approach your adversity with enthusiasm and a “can-do” positve spirit and you’ll be buoyed along the river of life with its inevitable daily surprises – good and bad.
Keep in mind that no life is perfect. No life can be. Adversity still haunts and taunts me. But I will never let it suck me back into the shadows.
I implore everyone to continue to grow by taking advantage of all the new opportunities presented to them via their own, personal unending stream – and infinite bounty – of adversity.
- Thank you so much for the interview, Al! Wish you success in your business!

Snail Joke :)

Wife sent her husband to the market to buy some snails, she wanted to use them as a skin care mean. On the way to the market the husband met his drinking companions and spent three days with them without coming home. Finally, on the third day he remembered about snails and went to the market to buy them.
But, three days have passed, so he couldn't come back home without an explanation.
So, he made the excuse... He came back and before knocking at the door, he put the snails on the floor. After his wife had opened the door, he said:
- "At last! Here we are! Come in, come in!" ;)
Assess and use your skills

Assessing Your Skills
If you have problems with the assessment of your professional skills, then create a simple analytical framework. Take a piece of paper and draw a vertical line, dividing the page into two parts.
On the left side, make a list of skills that are needed for your chosen work. On the right - your own skills, which directly coincide with each of the skills on the left.
You can also create a third category titled "skills to be acquired." These are skills that you think you need to develop. These skills can be obtained when taking part in different courses, seminars, internships.
You can also try to write a brief biography of skills. Recall the five accomplishments in your life that you are very proud of. Your last client was delighted with your work? You performed some work in the student council? Write about it!
Then read the written. Circle those verbs that you used. These verbs are probably your skills in different areas. Select from this list those skills that you would like to use.
The knowledge of your skills helps to use them.
If you have a clear idea of your professional skills, the whole process of presenting them to a potential employer will be much easier. The presentation may take the form of resume, cover letter or interview.
If you want a deeper insight into the process of assessing your skills, there are other tools. Career consultants use a special questionnaire to help you determine not only the skills you possess, but also those which you will need for a new job.
Your professional skills will help you to change your job successfully. Knowing your skills and comparing them with the requirements of the desired place of work, will give you the opportunity to find the job that you will like; and that's one of the main principles of career success. ;)

Why perfectionism is so bad?

In the psychology perfectionism is the belief that the best result can be and must be achieved. In pathological form - the belief that the imperfect result is unacceptable.
When you are a perfectionist you think that the job should be done perfectly or shouldn't be done at all. And why is it so bad? Sometimes you spend to much time and affords to do that job. Yes, the result will be perfect, but it will be too late already.
Here you have some reasons:
- You may never run a planned project just because you can not find the ideal structure for him.
- For example, if you have a website you may spend too much time on configuring your design, because you want to make it perfect. And because of that, you may forget about the content, which is much more important.
- You may never publish major articles just because you can not bring them to perfection.
- You may never try to make money, because there's a possibility that this idea can fail.
The point is that: the aspiration to perfection is a good quality, but you must understand that the success comes with your experience. ;)

Ways to become more attractive

Attraction is a strange thing. A person can be perfectly beautiful, but if he/she is not attractive, his/her beauty can go unnoticed. Being attractive doesn't mean that we should have a pretty look. Show your inner beauty. But how should we do that?
Be yourself
Many people try to hide their true essence, pretending to be someone else. You have no reason to hide your shortcomings, or to pretend that they do not exist. There are no perfect people. Sincere people are usually more attractive. Don't be shy. Love yourself and you will be loved by others.
Speak to the point
There is something attractive in those people whose words are full of meaning. Do not talk just for the sake of talking. Abraham Lincoln said: "It is better to be quiet and to be thought a fool, than to speak and resolve all doubt."
Listen to others
Today the art of listening is forgotten by many people, but still, it is very useful. When you listen to someone, you must really listen. If a conversation with you is no different from talking to the wall, you may not be attractive. There is something magnetic in the people who know how to listen.
Laugh
Any person becomes extremely attractive when laughing. Look at the world form the positive point of view. Try to laugh more often. Everyone likes a person with a sense of humor. Nobody likes a downer with a bad mood.
Smile
Smiling is the easiest way to be attractive. When you smile, you become more open to others. Did you know that the most successful people are constantly smiling?
Do not complain
Many people constantly complain, while making no attempt to eliminate the causes of these complaints. Stop whining and complaining about your fate, otherwise you will have even more troubles. Enjoy your life and be thankful for its gifts.
Feel your attractiveness
You can not be attractive in the eyes of other people until you feel you own attraction. Value yourself and be confident. However, remember that the line between confidence and boldness is very thin. Avoid the latter.
Be open to other people
Nobody likes closed, unsociable people. Be open to new relationships, communicate. No matter whom you talk with, remember - you are not worse. We are all part of one cell - of a mankind.
And the last, look how beautiful this world is and the world in its turn, will see how beautiful you are. ;)

Let's defeat AIDS

28 years have already passed since the time when people learned about AIDS - one of the biggest problems of humanity. We already know a lot about this virus, but scientists still receive more and more information about it. Today HIV has the a pandemic character. More than 40 million people live with AIDS/HIV today, and more than 20 million have died.
As today we have the World AIDS Day, let me publish the things people must do, in order to avoid this evil.
- Do not use the same syringes with other people. The best way is to use sterile disposable syringes;
- Exclude sex with people if you are not sure if they are infected;
- Note that the probability of infection depends on the number of sexual partners;
- If you are sexually active, you should follow the concept of "safe sex", i.e. the use of condoms in all sexual contacts.
Also we must remember that HIV is not transmitted:
- When you share clothes with someone who is infected with HIV;
- When shaking hands;
- When using a common toilet;
- When contacting in vehicles;
- When sneezing and coughing;
- When embracing;
- When touching money, bedclothes or underwear;
- When using a towel, soap, washcloth;
- When we are bitten by mosquitoes or other insects;
- When swimming in the pool;
- When kissing;
So, take care, have a safe sex and live a long life! ;)
